Aspire is located in west suburban Chicago. Aspire provides services for those with developmental disabilities from infants to seniors. they serve about 1000 individuals. There are many companies like this one throughout Illinois. When it comes to deinstitutionalization the main goal is to have individuals move into homes like the ones provided by Aspire.
Closing Institutions March 23, 2010
Deinstitutionalization is the movement of closing institutions that house the mentally retarded. It is the basic idea that the mentally retarded would be better off in a group home facility. In order for these institutions to be closed it must be proved that the living enviroments are detrimental to health and safety.
Investigations on state institutions have been done. One investigation took place in November 2009 at Choate Developmental Center in Anna, Illinois. Choate is home to 167 mentally retarded men and woman. the findings from this investigation were sent to Govenor Pat Quinn in hopes that he will close Choate. i have posted a link to this letter below.
